Here in the US, Florida, I spent a year, my freshman year, at St. Leo's a boarding school built in the early 1900s, ran by Benedictines organized on the British Public School model. Yes the headmaster had a cane, bloody Joe the fifth, yes a underclassman caught in Senior Alley would be soundly beaten by 3 or 5 seniors.
Some tongue in cheek, American royalty (Movie actors) attended; Desi Arnaz graduated, Lee Marvin attended (Something about throwing another student out a window, a second floor window as I heard the story.) led to him finishing high school elsewhere.
Why yes I also went elsewhere to finish high school, Archbishop Curley's, a normal day school in Miami, but no I never tossed anyone out a window. ;-)
I enjoyed this episode quite a lot. Having gone through boarding school myself here in South Africa during the early 2000s, I saw a lot of similarities to the stories your grandfather brought along. Thank you!
Very enjoyable. Fascinating look at a distinctive subculture that continues to echo through our own. I actually laughed at several points. Thank your father for us.
Enjoyable listen.

Thanks Jim!
