This was fantastic. I am a fellow North Country resident (Sackets Harbor area) and have been following both you and Hickman closely. I’d say I approach my plan to help revitalize this region closer to Johann, as I am deeply imbedded in the financialized system here in the US. However, it takes both approaches. I admire Hickman for his ability to live so lean and really put his efforts into attracting fellow ruralists. My plan deviates in that we need to also attract wealth, people who can have small businesses etc. thank you so much for this interview!!!! You both help me really think about how I can help revive small town America!!

I really hate to be “ that gal” but companies like Berkshire Hathaway are the proud owners of 100,000+ entire townships in the US. This what the hgtv brand was actually built for. Anyway, good luck to you.

Really enjoyed this podcast. Not the lifestyle for me, but I pray for Mr. Hickman and his lifestyle to entice more people to live that type of community-centered, off the capitalist rat-race path.

I don’t have the time to listen just yet, but I remember the Gas Station Girlfriends X thread/soliloquy. Can you link that again as a refresher please? It’s not referenced/linked from Substack as far as I can tell, but I’m about to go check X.
